Patient Story 2: Renieri, Metairie

If all providers were able to share and view my mother’s complete medical history electronically...perhaps she wouldn’t still be suffering today from her undiagnosed condition.

"For the last year and a half, I’ve been helping my mother manage some of her health issues. We’ve visited many different doctors where she has had procedures ranging from things as simple as blood work to more complex procedures like an MRI and a CAT scan. After a year and half, she still hasn’t received a diagnosis. Even though this endless cycle has been frustrating and my mother still suffers from her symptoms, we both realized that sharing her medical records with different providers has been just as frustrating. Recently, a new provider requested her records from a local hospital three times and they never received a single page. After three month of waiting, I visited the hospital to pick them up myself. In response to this situation, I made copies of all of her records, and when we go to visit a new provider, we now hand over a binder with a copy of all her records. It sounds archaic and ridiculous, but that’s what it takes to navigate today’s healthcare system. If all providers were able to share and view my mother’s complete medical history electronically, I’m confident her care would be improved, and perhaps she wouldn’t still be suffering today from her undiagnosed condition."
