Patient Story 1: Lauren, New Orleans

Not having a system in place where my medical records can be shared quickly between doctors and hospitals, is a dangerous, possibly life-threatening situation.

“After being diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg, I have been on a strong blood thinner for the last 6 months.  Because of my condition, I remain on a very high dosage. As a result, if I get a minor cut or wind up in surgery, I will bleed excessively.  If I get into an accident where I am unable to speak for myself, there is no way for an Emergency Room doctor or anyone else to know that I am on this medication, which puts my life at risk.  Not having a system in place where my medical records can be shared quickly between doctors and hospitals, is a dangerous, possibly life-threatening situation.  For my sake and others, I hope electronic sharing of electronic medical records becomes the norm as quickly as possible.”
